Woodland Pork and Home Reared Lamb
(free range pork and lamb from Markbeech)
The Pigs
Our pedigree free range pigs are outdoor reared in natural woodland
and in late November our boar porkers are available!
Our pigs are all pedigree Gloucester Old Spot. This is a
'rare breed' of pig (but not 'at risk') which is suitable for outside
rearing and indeed the piglets do exceptionally well roaming
and rooting in the woods from the day they are born.
The emphasis has been on 'natural' rearing on a small scale.
The piglets are weaned relatively late, they are fed so that they grow
at a natural pace and are reared outdoors in attractive spacious
woodland with added treats from the garden - vegetables and fruit.
By virtue of being pedigree and home reared the meat is clearly
traceable from start to finish. When finished they are taken for
slaughtering to a small abattoir nearby. The butchering of the
meat is done be Terry Allman in Edenbridge.
Pork reared in this way is delicious - succulent, tasty and with
proper crackling. The sausages, which need little or no
seasoning, taste fantastic.
